There’s not enough Japanese music making it to Berlin, it’s most of the time completely awesome or at the very least entirely unforgettable.
Good then, that Visual Kei J-rockers -OZ- have managed to cram their costumes and makeup into several large freight containers, bringing the whole show to Comet Club for a night of, to coin a phrase, kabuki-core…
These guys are actually pretty massive in amongst the sorts of circles that idolise bands like this. And that’s what visual kei bands are all about, giving band devotees something to really idolise. Think about the impact that KISS had on people when they were new, or Alice Cooper or, to cheapen the pattern a little, Marilyn Manson: in japan they completely get it and might be the only ones who can pull it off successfully. As if we listen to music just to hear a grouping of musical notes that form an aesthetically pleasing arrangment. It’s about the people and the clothes and the act as a whole. You’re not going to see anyone for a while who’s as aware of that as -OZ-. This show is going to be fucking magnificent.
